Tips to Create a Uniform that Your Team Will Love

A well-dressed team can set the tone for your customer and employee satisfaction.  Creating uniforms that your team will love to wear can be challenging, but it can also boost their morale, motivation, and performance if done well.

We recommend involving your employees in the design process, they will feel valued and appreciated.

Here are some tips based on our decades of experience at Tailored by Stafford.

| Before engaging with the team

Before you involve your team in the design process, it is best to consider:

  • The business purpose & budget for the uniform.

  • The job roles and  any job-related requirements?  Are there any OH&S requirements?

  • Demographics of your employees, gender mix, age profile, locations, climatic considerations.

  • Engage a supplier and determine the timeline and process for engagement.

| Team engagement

Team engagement is crucial for creating uniforms that your team will love to wear.  We recommend:

  • There are lots of ways to get your team involved, including surveys, committees, and workshops. Digital tools have made engagement easier.

  • You can also organize contests or events to let them vote on their favourite design.

  • Take the team on a journey, communicating during the engagement process, so that your team can see how their opinion and suggestions are being adopted.

  • Explain the background and purpose of the uniform, so that your team understands the broader context.

  • It is also worthwhile explaining at the outset that the range needs to suit all employees.

  • Ask the team to detail the functional requirements?  Examples to consider include:

    • The need for pockets or storage of special tools.

    • The need for breathability – how physical are the tasks?

    • The need for flexibility & ease of movement.

  • A wearer trial can be prudent, depending on the complexity of the range.  It adds an extra step to the timeline but can ensure that the range has been thoroughly researched.

| Case Study:  Quest Apartment Hotels:

The Project: Quest Apartment Hotels updated its uniform as part of a major brand update.

The Process: Quest analysed the objectives of the uniform regarding brand image and then conducted surveys to understand the needs of the franchisees and employees about uniforms and service. Tailored by Stafford collaborated with Quest through a series of human-centered design workshops leading to a wearer trial to test the design.

Creating uniforms that your team will love to wear requires careful planning, research, and collaboration.

At Tailored by Stafford, we are on a mission – To create better-dressed and more comfortable teams.  We are happy to provide advice with no obligation.
